For students interested in pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate programs in law, CLAT, AILET, and LSAT India are their leading choices. While Common Law Test (CLAT) provides admission in 24 National Law Universities (NLUs), the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) provides admission in only NLU, Delhi. On the other hand, the Law School Admission Test-India (LSAT-India) offers admission to various private law schools in India.

CLAT: The Consortium of Law Universities (NLUs) conducts a national-level law entrance exam known as CLAT. The full form of CLAT is the Common Law Admission Test. CLAT is conducted for admission to 5-year integrated LLB (UG) courses. The exam is conducted for admission to 24 NLUs for UG courses  . Apart from the NLUs in India, 61 other private affiliated colleges consider CLAT Scores and several PSUs accept it for recruitment.

CLAT Exam Pattern 2025

The CLAT 2025 exam is divided into five sections and comprises of total 120 questions. The Consortium of NLUs has specified the CLAT subject-wise weightage for each section of the exam. Each question in CLAT 2025 will carry one mark each and the maximum marks are 120. There is also a provision of negative marking and a 0.25 mark will be deducted for each incorrect response.

Previously, the total number of questions in CLAT used to be 150. However, the consortium revised the CLAT paper pattern and reduced the number of questions to 120. Candidates are given time of two hours to complete the exam. All the questions in the entrance exam will be objective-type questions. No marks will be deducted for unanswered questions. CLAT UG Syllabus 2025

CLAT UG Exam Pattern Subject Wise Analysis

 

Candidates can check the CLAT paper pattern for each section below:

 

CLAT English Language: This section of CLAT 2025 will comprise of 22 to 26 questions and it is given a weigtage of 20% in the exam. The CLAT English Language section will comprise of passages of around 450 words derived from historically significant non-fiction and fiction writing. The difficulty level of this section iss as per class 12. According to students who appeared for the previous sessions of the exam, this section of CLAT is usually easy but tricky.

 

CLAT Current Affairs including General Knowledge: This section of the exam will contain total 28 to 32 questions and it is given 25% weightage in the entrance test. The CLAT Current Affairs including General Knowledge section also comprises passage-based questions on current affairs. The questions are asked from topics like static general knowledge, national and international news and other related topics. According to past year candidates, this section is the easiest section of the CLAT exam.

 

CLAT Legal Reasoning: The CLAT Legal Reasoning section of CLAT 2025 will comprise of 28 to 32 questions & minimum weigtage of 25%. The questions will comprise of 450 words passages related to public policy making, legal matters or moral philosphical inquiries. According to previous year analysis, this section was easy and the passages were short.

 

CLAT Logical Reasoning: This section will comprise of total 22 to 26 questions and carries 20% weightage in the exam. The CLAT Logical Reasoning section will also comprise of 450 words passages followed by one or more questions. Questions in this section are of easy to moderate difficulty level.

 

CLAT Quantitative Techniques: This section carries the minimum weigtage of 10% in the CLAT exam. There are total 10-14 questions in the exam from CLAT Quantitative Techniques. The questions in this section are based on elementary mathematics from topics like ratio and proportions, basic algebra, mensuration and statistical estimation.

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has not announced the CLAT 2025 Exam Date. The CLAT Exam 2025 will be held in first week of December 2025. The exam authority will publish the admission notification for CLAT 2025 anytime soon with details of syllabus, exam pattern and events soon on the official website. From CLAT exam 2024 onwards, the law entrance exam will be held in December month, as the exam authority has indicated in earlier press release (November 2022). The final exam date for CLAT 2025 is expcted to be announced soon. 

In 2022, CLAT exam was held twice, I. e. on June 19 as CLAT 2022, and on December 18, 2022 as CLAT 2023. However, from 2024 onwards, CLAT exam is to be conducted once in a year only, as confirmed by the exam officials in the latest notification. Earlier, CLAT exam was conducted in May or June, but from 2024 onwards the entrance exam will be conducted in December (of preceding year to the admission year) itself for concluding admissions on time. Therefore, CLAT counselling process will be completed by May of each academic year.

CLAT 2025 Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria in terms of age and educational qualification to apply for the UG-CLAT 2025 are given in the tables below. Candidates should ensure that they fulfil the eligibility requirements laid down by the Consortium of National Law Universities. If it is found that they do not meet the eligibility criteria, then their candidature will not be considered for admission.

There is no upper age limit for aspirants applying for UG-CLAT 2025 examination.

Candidates who are going to appear in the qualifying exam (10+2 or its equivalent) in March/April (year) can apply for CLAT (year) exam. However, they must present proof of passing the qualifying exam when applying for admission.

This year, LSAT will offer multiple scholarships to be conferred in January 2024 and June 2024 to eligible candidates. 56 total scholarships will be provided- 53 Topper Scholarships (50 for UG and 3 for PG) and 3 scholarships for the winners of the essay competition.

The All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) is a national-level law exam administered by National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi) for candidates seeking admission to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs. Admission to the 5-year integrated BA. LL.B (Hons) programs are based on the scores or ranks obtained in this examination. The AILET is primarily concerned with assessing candidates' comprehension and reasoning abilities.

 

AILET Online Coaching- National Law University (NLU) Delhi does not accept CLAT scores. Therefore, NLU Delhi conducts a separate law entrance,All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) for admission in around 123 (110 + 13) seats in B.A LLB (Hons). The AILET exam is of an hour and thirty minutes in offline mode and consists of 150 multiple-choice questions. The examination is conducted annually, usually toward the end of the year in December.
